> DO YOU HAVE A SUPERVISOR?

Setting up a regular time to meet with a trusted supervisor provides you with a safe environment in which to share and evaluate your working practice and check in as to how things are going personally.

Good supervision is all about great listening, honest sharing, guidance in making decisions, issues and conflict resolution, challenge and development, correction where needed, support and accountability, safety and longevity within your role.

If you don't have a supervisor and would like to talk more about what this involves, please contact the Youth Unit.

> NETWORKING

As a youth leader working in youth ministry, it's encouraging to remember that you're not alone! There is a pile of helpful resources out there to assist you in your role and most importantly, a whole lot of people out there as well with the same call as you. One of our Youth Unit goals is to develop our network of youth ministry across the Diocese. Below are some practical ways in which we can help (WITH YOUR HELP!) to make this goal a reality:

> KNOW THY NEIGHBOUR

We each work within one of the Nelson Diocese four regions, if you haven't met the youth leader or vicar down the road from your patch, this is a great first step. Why not give them a call, shout them a coffee and get to know them? This can be a great way to share ideas or struggles, to bounce around vision and to also gain a deeper understanding of the area you're working in. You could also pray together or hatch a plan to combine one night for a youth activity so your youth can mix as well?

> CONTACT LIST DIRECTORY

Under the 'Parishes' section of this web site we have included a contact list directory for everyone working with youth in our Diocese. This is so you can call or email someone if you need to. Handy eh.

> DIOCESE EVENTS

These are great to head along to if you want to meet other leaders and youth from other parishes. Spring camp, FUSE and our training days are a great place to start. We also have a fortnightly Email news that we send to our contacts - if you're not onthe list but would like to be, let us know!

 >WANT TO GO ON A MISSION???

Anna Tovey and the team at NZCMS are organising short term 'Encounter' trips for any keen older youth, young adults and youth leaders. There are a variety of destinations to choose from each year, all you have to do is fundraise for the costs of your chosen trip and then head along with the team for a life changing experience!

NZCMS also have a 10 month internship track available for someone looking to possibly take a gap year and use it for overseas mission - pray if this is for you. This could seriously impact your life forever.

 > DAILY BREAD

"Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them." Jesus - Matthew 18:18-19

'Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.' King Solomon - Proverbs 4:23-27

 > GREAT QUOTES

"Never give in. Never, never, never, never." - Winston Churchill

"Imagination is more important than knowledge." - Albert Einstein

///////////////////////////////

 > TO REFLECT ON...

'To be a disciple of Jesus means to follow Him, to go the way that He goes, to accept His plan and will for our lives. 'If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.' It is a call to say "No" to the old selfish life of sin, and to say "Yes" to Jesus. Inward belief must be accompanied by outward obedience. Soren Kierkegaard once rightly said, 'It is so hard to believe because it is so hard to obey'. There is no true faith without obedience, and there is no discipleship either.' -  David Watson

 > YOUTH MINISTRY BITES

      COMMUNICATION

Do people in your church know what's happening for youth? Do new people know how their youth can be connected in? Does anyone outside of the church walls know your ministry exists? Sometimes as leaders we can have a handle on everything that's happening but forget that other people dont live inside our brain. Establishing good communication is vital for keeping parents, youth and parishoners informed and promoting what's happening to the world at large. It also enables the wider church to support you and encourage the youth, to pray over the group and have a better sense of being connected to the youth ministry.

Ideas: Set up a regular church notice slot for the youth, put together a youth group info pack for visitors, drop cool flyers around your community, set up a text chain, set up a website and email out, hold a parents info night, build a funky youth group notice board for the foyer, get youth involved and up front in the church services, speak with a megaphone when at church...
